Lisa Beckwith

Director of Care

I would consider myself a local who grew up in Hants Border (family of 6 with me being the baby and no I’m not spoiled) and ironically I had the exact same view of the mudflats as I do now at the Elms. I remember as a young child standing at my bedroom window with my binocular looking across the water at the distance shores thinking it was Prince Edward Island (Mind you Anne of Green Gables WAS popular then and what girl did not fantasize about Gilbert!)

I live with my spouse Scott and our daughter Lily on Wallbrook mountain where we enjoy sitting on the veranda watching our daughter practice her soccer/basketball moves. I also enjoy listening to my (fluff) novels, watching crime shows, or puttering in my weed-choked gardens. A simple life for sure. I have worked at the Elms since 1992 as a summer nursing student and then hired in 1993 upon graduation from Dalhousie as a part-time Registered Nurse. Since that time I worked full-time nights, fulltime as a Resident Care Coordinator, and then my longest role for 17 years was as the Assistant Director of Care. Last year I became the Director of Care and have enjoyed participating in all the happenings throughout the Home as well as participating outside of the Home on the Continuing Care Council and the Provincial Nursing Network. I have huge admiration for all the folks who live and work here and those who visit here for all your support, understanding and flexibility. It’s these times that build stronger relationships and sparks creativity in realigning to our new norm. Author Vivian Greene explained, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.”
