Jim’s most recent service to the WEV Board of Directors has been to the Finance Committee since 2015. However, Jim has been involved in various positions with the Windsor Elms Village since 1984. He served as a Board member from 1984 to 1990, and as Chairman of the Finance Committee from 1988 to 1990. He then served as a legal consultant to the Board from 1991 to 2013. He returned as a member of the Board in 2015 and served as Chair until 2017.
Jim Dewar has maintained an active interest in seniors and members of the community with special needs for many years.
Jim graduated from Mount Allison University with a B.A. in Political Science in 1969. He went on to Queen’s University where he received his Bachelor of Laws degree in 1975. Jim was admitted to the Nova Scotia Bar in 1977. He has practised law in the Annapolis Valley since that time and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 1995.
Mr. Dewar retired from TMC Law in Kentville at the end of 2013. His preferred areas of practice included Elder Law, Estate Planning & Trusts, Wills, Mediation, Municipal, and Real Estate.
Jim enjoys daily walks in a local park with his chocolate lab Hamish. His physical activity includes bicycling, downhill skiing, hiking, playing old timers hockey, and ocean kayaking. Since retiring he has had the good fortune to be able to travel and to spend time with his grandchildren in Ontario and BC.
